Club Sporting Handicap - Isle of Wight Gun Club

The Club runs a personal handicap system, this allows members of all standards to compete for competitions. It also allows members to track their improvements over time.

The sporting handicap is calculated after a member has recorded 6 100 bird sporting scores. The best of those 6 scores and the worst are discarded, and the remaining 4 results averaged. This corrected average is subtracted from ‘ 95’ (used as ‘par’) averages are not rounded, the decimal is discarded from the calculation – giving whole number handicap figures. Your personal handicap number show how you’ve been shooting compared to other members – but remember that their average may have been calculated on different shoots ( in some cases a long while ago).

The averages are also used to calculate the club class – spilt 25% of members for A, B , C , D class The list shows your old personal handicap so you can track your progress, and the difference between old and new, if you have a +ve number then you have improved by that number, if you have a -ve number then your averages have dropped they will be updated 4 x per year after every 6 shoots.
